For those organizations who make use of unlicensed personnel to act as scribes, The Joint Commission has published a few FAQs that provide some excellent insight into how that organization views unlicensed personnel as scribes and how organizations who use these scribes can make sure to remain in compliance with HR, IM, Leadership, and Rights and Responsibilities standards.

The FAQs address the definition of unlicensed scribes and whether these staff persons can enter orders for physicians and practitioners, as well as clarifications on compliance.

The FAQs can be found on The Joint Commission’s website here.
