The CMS last week announced the final list of hospitals that are receiving a 1% penalty for having the highest rates of preventable complications as of October 1, according to a report in HealthLeaders Media.

Hospitals are scored on a 1-10 scale based on rates of hospital-acquired conditions (HAC) such as central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and other preventable conditions. Of 3,398 eligible hospitals, 21% (724) are being penalized.
