Joint Commission clarifies organ procurement requirements

The Joint Commission has clarified its requirement that hospitals must have a written agreement with an organ procurement organization (OPO). Transplant Safety standard TS.01.01.01 requires that hospitals develop and implement written policies and procedures for the donation and procurement of organs and tissues.

The clarification explains that OPOs are not considered contracted services, and also details which federal regulations apply to OPOs.
