The Joint Commission last week announced the development of a new optional advanced certification program for organizations that provide total hip and total knee replacement procedures.

The program applies to surgeries performed in inpatient, hospital-based outpatient, and ambulatory surgery settings and it focuses on quality, consistency, and safety throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases of care.

The accreditor is seeking input from the field on the proposed requirements until May 19.
