The Joint Commission released prepublication standards for its new Acute Stroke-Ready Hospital disease-specific care advance certification program.

The program was developed with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association and is designed for accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals that would not be likely candidates for primary stroke center certification because of resources or location. The standards go into effect on July 1.
