Q: What are some key steps to consider in maintaining ongoing survey readiness?  

A: Team leaders need to be able to organize and lead a group, create action plans, and meet deadlines. Project management skills are an asset. Determine who is in the best position to champion a team. You can also divide up larger chapters like the Provision of Patient Care to include subchapter topics, such as assessments, anesthesia, perioperative care, and restraints.  

Likewise, the team should comprise staff members who can provide overall input and direction regarding the specific topic. Look for staff volunteers or accept nominations from leadership. Those who participate willingly will most likely be enthusiastic and interested. Consider the strengths of the team members as well. Those with a history of accomplishments on previous projects or who can generate enthusiasm are great team members.
