The Joint Commission’s biannual list of top-cited hospital standards is out for the first half of 2014 is chock full of the usual suspects from the Environment of Care and Life Safety chapters, according to the September issue of Joint Commission Perspectives. The top standard on the list was EC.02.05.01 (managing risks associated with utility systems) with 53%, followed by LS.02.01.20 (maintaining the integrity of means of egress) with 52% and EC.02.06.01 (establishing and maintaining a safe environment) with 51%.

The list continues with the following standards:
•    EC.02.03.05 (maintaining fire safety equipment and building features), 50%
•    IC.02.02.01 (reducing the risk of infections associated with medical equipment/devices/supplies), 50%
•    LS.02.01.10 (designing and maintaining building and fire protection features to minimize effects of fire, smoke, and heat), 49%
•    RC.01.01.01 (maintaining complete and accurate patient medical records), 49%
•    LS.02.01.30 (providing and maintaining building features to protect from the hazards of fire and smoke), 46%
•    LS.02.01.35 (providing and maintaining fire extinguishing systems), 44%
•    EC.02.02.01 (managing risks related to hazardous materials and waste), 36%
