When an emergency requires the use of LIPs who are not current members of your medical staff, an abbreviated process is acceptable. That process must include what forms of identification for the LIPs?

Answer: A current, valid, government-issued photo ID and one of the following:

  • Current photo ID from another healthcare facility that identifies the professional identification
  • Current license
  • Primary source verification
  • Identification as a member of a state or federal emergency response organization or group (e.g., DMAT, MRC, ESAR-VHP)
  • ID identifying the person as a receiving government approval to provide care and treatment during emergency circumstances
  • Confirmation by a LIP on your staff or a staff member with personal knowledge of the volunteer’s ability to provide services during a disaster

Training Tips: The AHAP Staff Challenge is the perfect way to regularly train your staff. If the challenge is a question, forward the e-mail to your staff. Once they answer the question, they will receive immediate feedback on their answers. If your staff doesn't have e-mail access, use this question in different, creative ways.

You can use the question and answer in:

• Posters

• Intranets

• Tent cards placed on tables in staff lounges and cafeterias

• Handouts or quizzes distributed at team meetings

• Reference binder available in staff areas

• Paycheck stuffers

• Newsletters
