St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, New York, passed a follow-up survey ordered by the CMS, which cited the facility after a February inspection found one of its physicians was slapping anesthetized patients on the buttocks and calling them derogatory names before surgery, Syracuse.com reports. The February inspection found that the behavior had gone on for a year until a complaint was filed with hospital administration.

The state Health Department conducted the follow-up visit, which found that St. Joseph’s now complies with all CMS requirements. The hospital put the surgeon, Michael Clarke, on administrative leave. He has been practicing at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse since February and has denied any wrongdoing, Syracuse.com reports.
